By : Dr Jeffrey Goh
Date : 10 September, 2018
Time: 9.30am to 3.30pm
Venue: St. Mary’s of the Divine Mercy Church
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
It is with great pleasure that St. Mary’s Parish’s Sibu, as the organizing Committee, with his Lordship’s blessing wishes to invite all of you to attend this Talk to be given by Dr Jeffrey Goh on Amoris Laetitia: “The Joy of Love” the Post-Synodal Apostolic Exhortation written by our Holy Father Pope Francis. Dr. Jeffrey Goh is a well-known speaker and retreat master, and as a matter of fact he was also one of the Advisors in the Synod on the Family in 2014.
As you all are aware, our Diocese of Sibu has embarked on a decade of Creation Justice which started with Creation Justice: Evangelization in union with Creation and with spiritual emphasis from Ego Centered to Eco Christ Centered in 2017. This year’s 2018 talk is organized in view of our theme for the year which is “Creation Justice: Let’s Begin From Home” whereby we are all called to start from our own family.
The Apostolic Exhortation, Amoris Laetitia in which this Talk is about, touches on various aspects and challenges in family life from the reality of family life to its vocation, the rearing and education of children, the elderly, some pastoral perspectives and spiritual aspects. It invites us all to have a positive look at the beauty of married love and the family and also learn to render services to whoever is experiencing family difficulties, crises and failures so that those in this so-called ‘Irregular situation’ will be integrated and not feel excluded in our church. We are called to learn to be “accompanying and discerning” and no one must feel condemned or scorned. The Exhortation opens up the wide horizon of undeserved grace and unconditional mercy for everyone in whatever situation they find themselves. We are called to gaze with the eyes of Jesus. We need not look far but among our own family members to realize that some of our family members or those near to us fall under such situation.
As such, the Organizing Committee strongly urges all of you, young and old, single or married to come and listen to the talk and also to encourage others especially those who feel themselves ‘unwelcome‘, ‘hostility’ or ‘unworthy’ in the Church as they had divorced or had entered into a non-sacramental marriage, to attend.
We all need to work together and learn how we can all journey together as a pilgrim Missionary Church to bring about God’s Kingdom of Beauty, Truth and Holiness to all and help to realize our Diocese of Sibu’s Vision, “That All May Be One”.
