Chancery Notice:Extraordinary Mission Month of October 2019

As announced on 22 October, 2017, World Mission day, Pope Francis convoked the Extraordinary Mission Month of October 2019 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Pope Benedict XV’s Apostolic Letter Maximum Illud.

In order to reawaken and reignite the baptismal awareness of the People of God in relation to the mission of the Church to proclaim the Gospel with the new enthusiasm, Pope Francis set the theme as ‘Baptized and Sent: the Church of Christ on mission to the world’Missio Ad Gentes.

The Holy Father wants this extraordinary month to rest on these four points:

  1. A personal encounter with Jesus Christ living in His Church: in the Eucharist, in the Word of God and, in the personal and communal prayer
  2. Testimony: missionary saints, martyrs and confessors of the faith as an expression of the Church scattered throughout the world
  3. Missionary formation: biblical, catechetical, spiritual and theological
  4. Missionary charity

In conjunction with this Mission Month, the Diocese of Sibu has designated three pilgrimage centres for the purpose.

These three designated pilgrimage centres are:

  1. The Chapel of St. Andrew, Sari, Sarikei
  2. The Church of Mary, Immaculate Conception, Kapit
  3. The Chapel of St. Nicholas, Ku, Dalat

Parishes are to make their own arrangement to visit these pilgrimage centres during the months of September – October, 2019.
