Sibu Diocesan Youth Day 2017 (SDYD:4G)

WELCOME TO SDYD 2017 !

My dear young people are you often in doubt, confused at times especially with issues concerning your bodies, about sexuality, love and about your future? SDYD is a great opportunity to help you find the answer that God has prepared for you! “Perfect love drives out fear.” (1John 4:18)

WHAT IS SDYD?

Sibu Diocesan Youth Day (SDYD) is a celebration of God’s love, joy and mercy especially for youths in the Diocese of Sibu(12 parishes). This year we will be gathering youths from the parishes of Sibu to come together to learn about oneself and to discover one’s own identity. We hope that by introducing “Theology of the Body,” by St. John Paul II, you may discover your own self and purpose(s) in life. We pray that you may come to know God’s plan and purpose for you in life through SDYD.

Objective of SDYD

Obj 1: Deepen and define our relationship with God
Obj 2: To acknowledge that there’s nothing perfect in this world, we are precious and loved by God even in our imperfection.
Obj 3: Do not be anxious and fear of our future, God‘s promises & assurance will sustain our life.

WHAT IS 4G?

GREEN:
Green stands for self-imperfection, nature’s origin which does not look attractive when compared to other colours. Like the young people in the modern world who longs for a life of multi-colours instead of just being green and monotonous. Thus artificial packaging becomes an important part of their life.

GRASS:
Grass represents our root which is tiny but strong. Young Catholics today find it difficult to accept themselves for who they are. They care so much about their appearances, achievements and about the affirmations they received from others so to find their own niche in today’s world.

GRACE:
Grace is the love of God shown unto us sinners. By the grace of God, we are who we are; it was not us but God who is doing His work in us. It is relying on Him and His power we are able to face the many difficulties and problems of life.

GOD:
The Creator of all things both in heaven and on earth, who created us man in His own image and likeness. Though we often made mistakes and sinned due to our imperfection, but when we repented, He forgives and made us whole again and gives us the strength to begin anew. In this way we can strive to be more like Him who is perfect. “Therefore be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect.”(Mat 5:48)

Our guest Speaker is Remmy Martin Gunsalam, from Kota Kinabalu, who is a member of Splendour Project. He will be speaking about the “Theology of the Body” for the coming SDYD on 6th-10th June 2017. Mr Remy Martin Gunsalam has had ample working experience with young people. He has devoted himself to educating youth on the value of Catholic moral teachings, and he does this with conviction. His teaching expertise relates to issues of sexual purity, abortion and contraception, and emotional and mental health, all these being crucial issues confronting our young people today.
