Message from Bishop

Sibu originally belonged to the Archdiocese of Kuching. It was erected as a new Diocese in 1987, when the late Pope John Paul.II,
(together with 96 Cardinals, Archbishops & Bishops concelebrating), ordained Dominic Su on 6th January, 1987 in St. Peter’s Basilica, Rome as the first bishop of Sibu.

He was officially installed as the Bishop of this newly erected Diocese on 11th February, 1987 in the presence of the then Apostolic Delegate, Most Rev. Archbishop Renato Martino & the Bishops’ Conference of Malaysia, Singapore & Brunei.
Since the erection, the Diocese has received so much of blessings. The Lord blessed us with 9 local ordained priests, a Diocesan Centre, a Wisma, a Pastoral Centre & a Preparatory Seminary.

More and more of our Catholics are coming forward to take an active role in the various activities of the Church. We try our best to pray and work together for the greater glory of God and the growth of this church in our Diocese.
